Frequently Asked Questions
What is benchmarking?
Benchmarking aims to use performance data to make comparisons between companies to enable management improvements. Benchmarking can either be between similar companies within a sector, or between similar functions within different companies (e.g. comparing procurement functions in a car company and a telecoms company).
Why is benchmarking needed for climate change?
Companies directly account for 1/3 of UK emissions and indirectly influence at least another 1/3. Some companies have demonstrated that by employing the latest technologies and best practice management techniques they can dramatically reduce emissions - and save money at the same time. However, the majority of companies have yet to achieve these gains. Benchmarking promises to be a powerful tool to enable late starters to achieve the standards being set by the best; and to allow the best to become even more carbon efficient.
